I am exploring how fabrics and shapes work together to signify identity. Inspired by folk performers in northwest of China and characters in 1990s American films, I want to represent the personality of freedom and strength. I draped with denim jacket based on how these people wrap clothes around bodies to show a relaxed attitude. The powerful shapes in Henrique Oliveria’s installations also inspired me in constructing garments and proportioning patterns. Textile on denim fabrics is inspired by the living environment of the performers-Huangtu Plateau, a dry but beautiful plateau in China, mixed with the plaid patterns of clothes in 1990s fashion.
